We are very happy to announce Tidewater Players will be joining forces with the STAR Centre Summer camps to bring you three powerhouse musical theatre camps this summer:
Winnie the Pooh Kids (Grades K-6)
June 19-23
The Spongebob Musical (Ages 5-12)
July 3-15 (No camp on July 4)
Anastasia (Grades 7-12)*
July 10-July 21
*Mean Girls High School Edition, the previously announced teen camp, has been put on hold to be produced at a later date. Director Rob Tucker will now take the helm for “Anastasia” as the teen camp offering.
At a recent public City Council meeting, the current fee structures affecting the Opera House and STAR Centre (among other City properties and services) were put through an auditing process in order to accommodate the jump in operating expenses to maintain these venues and keep them financially sustainable. As a result, rental and technical fees have gone up significantly. However, since our commitment at Tidewater Players has always been to bring affordable theatrical experiences to the community, with our only options being to increase camp fees and ticket prices to offset the additional cost, compromise the quality of the productions Tidewater consistently brings to their summer camps and the local community, or cancel camps all together, we are happy to announce an exciting new opportunity to partner with our friends and neighboring summer camp at the STAR Centre and the City of Havre de Grace.
The obvious benefit to this partnership is that the two programs can now share the expenses without sacrificing quality or raising prices. Beyond that, however, there are far greater benefits! Campers will now be exposed to twice the artists working on the
production team thus broadening their education, they will have the opportunity to work out of two very different facilities, they will meet more new friends than is typical in a summer camp environment, and the programs themselves will share resources and assets across the board. Our world of costumes, sets, props, artists, special effects, crew, technicians, and more just doubled!
We are excited at the magnitude of potential this partnership holds for the enrichment of our campers and for our final production. We cannot wait to get started!
While we understand some of our teens who had looked forward to Mean Girls may be disappointed, rest assured that we are committed to presenting the show in the near future as a mainstage youth program or a future summer camp. In the meantime, we hope that you will join our new teen camp of Anastasia for the opportunity to work with director Rob Tucker and take part in an exciting local premiere show and be a pioneer in the in our partnership season.
The Spongebob Musical Juniors camp will proceed as scheduled with the same staff and dates.. Plus we have a fun new opportunity for our younger members to join our new Winnie the Pooh kids camp for K-6!
All campers who had previously sent in registrations for any camp will need to re-register at the link below. We look forward to all of you being part of our new partnership with the City and the Star center and beginning a new journey with Tidewater Players.
